Giorgio Meletti Cavallari, a winemaker in Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast, founded his own winery project in 2002 after completing his studies in oenology and gaining work experience in Franciacorta, Chianti Classico, and California. His father Giorgio, the creator of the historic Grattamacco estate, fully supported the decision. The vineyards extend over an area of 14 hectares, all within the Bolgheri DOC. Two parcels stand out, the “Piastraia” and the “Vallone”. While the former is characterized by skeletal and galestro schist soils at 350 meters above sea level (the highest in the denomination), the latter is distinguished by a clayey limestone terroir in the foothill zone. Among the rows, the permitted white and red berry varieties are cultivated according to the Bolgheri DOC regulations, giving space to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Vermentino, and Viognier, with yields of about 60 quintals per hectare.
There is a strong bond between each wine and Giorgio’s personality. It is a deep relationship, evident from a graphic point of view on the labels of each bottle, characterized by the fingerprints of Giorgio, symbolizing how these are truly handmade wines.
