The history of our family began in the north of Modena’s plains, in the countryside between two small hamlets called Panzano di Campogalliano and Ganaceto di Modena. Growing up in a family of farmers and following in the footsteps of our grandfather Ugo, our father Giuseppe used to jokingly say he was born in a barrel. This was a testament that his bigger passion had always been only one thing: the Lambrusco wines.
In the early 2000s, our family decided to invest in new vineyards, moving from the plains to the Bolognese hills, to start experimenting with Lambrusco Grasparossa and Grechetto Gentile in their most suitable area. Despite the decision to move part of our production to the hills, we kept our historical vineyards in the plains and bought new estates. We increased from 5 to 15 hectares with the preferred old vines, which are more difficult to cultivate but capable of producing a more typical wine.
The nature and the stratification of the soil affect the vine in absorbing water and minerals. Vine is one of the plants that are the most influenced by the environment and the soil, this characteristic means that it can adapt to a large range of conditions.
This is why every single vineyard has its own characteristics and that is also the reason why we want to valorize them to the best of our ability. Our family has always considered old vines an added value to the quality of our Lambruschi and recently we implemented ancient vines cultivated with the old pergolas called “Belussi’s Pergola” or “Ray Pergola”, into our vineyards.
