Review
The 2017 Barbera d'Alba Superiore Vigna Le Masserie offers up an exotic mélange of blueberry jam, cloves, licorice, spice and leather. In 2017, the Masserie is a bit riper than it can be, but that is the vintage speaking. Even so, there is plenty of the structure that makes the Boschis wines so distinctive.

Released in 1,115 bottles and 16 magnums, the Boschis Francesco 2018 Barbera d'Alba Superiore Vigna Le Masserie shows an inky or impenetrable appearance. This Barbera, which spends time in steel and later in tonneaux, is thickly layered with blackberry, dried cherry and plum. Overall, it is full-bodied but reveals medium length. It's perfect for a classic pasta of salsiccia e panna.

The 2019 Barbera d'Alba Superiore Vigna Le Masserie is a dense, opulent wine. Black cherry, smoke, licorice, chocolate and cloves are all kicked up in this beautifully dense, full-throttle Barbera. The 2019 is not a subtle wine, but it packs tons of punch and is an absolute delight to taste.

Review
The 2020 Barbera d'Alba Superiore Vigna Le Masserie is the more potent of the two Barberas. It marries notable fruit intensity with quite a bit of structure and plenty of acidity. There's good energy, even if the ripe red-toned fruit seems a bit clamped down today. It will be interesting to see if this opens. Today, the Superiore feels a bit clenched. Inky blue/purplish fruit, gravel, incense and smoke build into the virile finish.

The 2016 Dogliani Vigne in Pianezzo is done in a somewhat linear style for Boschis that emphasizes persistence and energy more than overt fruit. Bright red cherry, mint and floral notes give the 2016 its distinctive high- toned personality.

The 2021 Dogliani Pianezzo is bright, punchy and full of character. Ripe red-fleshed fruit intermingled with spice and floral notes meld together in this vibrant, juicy Dogliani from Boschis. The Pianezzo is not the most complex wine in this range, but it is certainly among the most delicious.

The 2015 Dogliani Superiore Vigna dei Prey is all class. Deceptively medium in body in this vintage, the Vigna del Prey is all about grip and tension. A host of mineral, graphite, lavender and blueberry overtones are laced together in this deceptively mid-weight, polished Dogliani.

The highlight in this range from Boschis, the 2016 Dogliani Superiore Vigna dei Prey is laced with the essence of blackberry jam, black cherry, licorice, graphite, cloves, menthol and new leather. Dark, powerful and sumptuous, the Vigna dei Prey shows off the richer side of Dolcetto to great effect. But what I love most about the Vigna dei Prey is its ability to be unapologetically flamboyant and yet not at all overdone. There is so much to love in the 2016.

Exotic and bold, the 2017 Dogliani Superiore Vigna dei Prey is full of character. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, cloves, licorice and menthol are all generously sketched in this unctuous yet mid-weight Dolcetto. Even with all of its overt fruit, the 2017 possesses quite a bit of tannic clout. I would give it at least a few more months in bottle.

The 2018 Dogliani Superiore Vigna dei Prey is a gorgeous, exotic wine. Blackberry, lavender, spice, tobacco, menthol and licorice give the Prey quite a bit of depth, but the 2018 is not as rich as some previous editions, not a bad thing at all. Once again, the Vigna dei Prey is a wine of real character and personality. I would open it at least an hour in advance, as the tannins are searing.

This is a real beauty, a wine that shows lots of dark fruit and concentration with blackberry, black cherry and plum. The Boschis Francesco 2018 Dogliani Superiore Pianezzo - Vigna dei Prey offers balanced and intense aromas, making for a great first impression. This wine is aged in stainless steel only. It invites a cheeseburger cooked rare with wedge fries, bacon and guacamole. There are dusty, salty notes at the back of all that black fruit. Exactly 2,666 bottles were made.

The Boschis Francesco 2019 Dogliani Superiore Pianezzo - Vigna dei Prey reveals lovely darkness and freshness, with punchy dark blackberry fruit to drive the message home. There is a raw and natural character that only the Dolcetto grape can bring. This, along with its acidity and freshness of fruit, is what ultimately makes it so food friendly, especially with a pizza or an easy pasta. This was a release of 3,612 bottles and 16 magnums.

Bright floral notes, rose petal and red plum add the closing shades of nuance in a wine that shows the dolcetto grape at its more refined.

The Boschis Francesco 2018 Dogliani Superiore Pianezzo - Vigne Sorì San Martino offers a dark and layered bouquet with exciting floral highlights of dark rose and pressed violet. The wine appears full-bodied at first, but upon second inspection, the fruit reveals a light and loose character. Blackberry and sour cherry add to the significant primary intensity of the bouquet. Fruit is harvested from 70-year-old vines spread over a two-hectare plot with important, labor-intensive slopes (with inclines ranging from 35% to 55%). As a result, all vineyard work is done by hand and a mere 2,000 bottles were produced.

The Boschis Francesco 2016 Dogliani Superiore Vigna del Ciliegio opens to a dark and almost impenetrable appearance with blackish ruby highlights. This wine stands out thanks to an extra year of aging (with one year in large oak casks and 10 months in stainless steel), awarding us a different perspective on the Dolcetto grape. The intensity of the fruit has carefully subsided, and the wine glides over the palate with added tar, spice and truffle. This is a special red wine from Piedmont with fruit from southwest-facing 60-year-old vines planted in heavy calcareous clay soils. A precious few 1,600 bottles were released. I highly recommend this wine for its terrific value.
