Review
The 2020 Bianco Fiagre, a blend of 70% Fiano and 30% Greco, is delicate and understated in the glass. Notes of pear, apple, crushed sea shells and dusty flowers can be found with coaxing. It's textures are luxuriously silky yet refined, with minerals-tinged orchard fruits and subtle hints of spice. There's excellent persistence through the finale, as a saturation of pit fruits and a salty flourish give way to honeyed inner florals. The Bianco Fiagre takes its time to fully blossom, but once it does, it's such a pure and harmonious wine. "Lovely" is the word that comes to mind.

Luminous yellow. The performed nose combines lemon, hazelnut, fresh herbs and vanilla. At once fresh and broad, but also chewy and dense; strong, harmonious acidity and a saline quality nicely frame the smooth midpalate. Plenty of stuffing here, but also very good sugar/acid/extract balance. Finishes with lovely length and lift.

Bright straw. Aromas of pear and honey are complicated by botanical herbs. Enters rich and ripe, then turns brighter and fresher in the middle. Finishes spicy and delicately peppery, displaying a youthfully tannic quality. A blend of Fiano and Greco that offers clearly recognizable elements of both grape varieties (the vibrancy and herbal notes of cool-climate Fiano wines and the tannic nature and fruitiness of wines made with Greco). This strikes me as a very successful Fiagre, a wine I have never been particularly impressed by.

The 2021 Bianco Fiagre is incredibly fresh, with sweet mint, stone dust and smoke giving way to crushed apples. It balances rich, nearly-oily textures with crisp pit fruits and saline-tinged acidity to create a sensaiton of contrasts. The 2021 finishes fresh with a salty sensation as a touch of raw almond slowly fades. The Fiagre is a beautifully balanced blend of 70% Fiano and 30% Greco.

The sweetly scented 2020 Falanghina wafts up with a dusty display of yellow flowers, incense and pear. It soothes with its glycerol-like textures, feeling more like nectar than wine, with ripe orchard fruits and hints of custard; all if kept in check by citrus-tinged acidity. For all of its fruit-forward intensity, this tapers off remarkably fresh and clean, leaving the palate perfectly set for another pleasurable sip.

A superb choice for your next raw shellfish appetizer, especially at this price, the Cantine Antonio Caggiano 2019 Fiano di Avellino Béchar opens to a radiant, golden appearance and an elaborate bouquet that shows orchard fruit, honey and Golden Delicious apple. The wine sports a razor-sharp backbone of minerality or salinity that really brings it all together. This vintage of 35,000 bottles comes out roaring, both in terms of intensity and balance. It's a beautiful expression of Fiano.

The 2020 Fiano di Avellino Bechar lifts up with a savory and rich bouquet that blends balanced almond with freshly sliced pear and hints of smoke. This rushes the palate with a decadent mix of silky textures, ripe orchard fruits, candied citrus and sweet inner florals, all motivated by brilliant acidity. Nuances of green melon mix with ginger and salty minerals to create a reverberation of tension through the long and dramatic finale. This showboat of a Fiano will win a lot of hearts.

Light vivid yellow. Inviting, ripe aromas of yellow peach and vanilla custard cream are complicated by notes of lemon. Fresh and fruit-driven; peach and saline flavors show outstanding complexity and good concentration. Finishes long and very bright. I would like not have guessed this had the 13,5% alcohol reported on its label.

The 2017 Fiano di Avellino Béchar does a terrific job of showcasing the grape and its territory. The wine (aged only in stainless steel) shows a finely knit texture with balanced aromas of pear, white peach and Golden Delicious apple. The bouquet is distinguished by the intensity and the varietal purity of its aromas. This was a hot and dry vintage that seems to have squeezed out the grape's fruity aromas, down to the very last drop.

The Cantine Antonio Caggiano 2019 Greco di Tufo Devon is a sunlit, golden wine with ripe aromas of peach, apricot, fragrant yellow rose and soft pastry cream. That level of fruity intensity, textural richness and warmth very much sets this wine apart from its peers that tend to be thinner and more tonic. Instead, this wine has the latitude and width to pair with lemon-marinated chicken baked in an almond crust. Some 30,000 bottles were created.

Bright straw-yellow. Fresh aromas of lime, pomaceous orchard fruit and minty herbs. Then multilayered and vibrant, offering lively, juicy flavors of tropical fruits, aromatic spices, orange nectar and pear. A bright, precise wine boasting very good juiciness that lingers nicely on the aftertaste. Much more successful and accurate than the 2017 Fiano Bechar by Caggiano, which is not surprising, as all across Campania, Greco fared much better in 2017’s heat than did Fiano.

Saturated ruby. Graphite, licorice, tar and woodsy underbrush complicate sour red cherry aromas and flavors. Much more elegant but also more austere and less fruity than the other two Aglianicos released by Caggiano this year. Is there enough fruit here to stand up to the tannins over time? Finishes long and serious. I’d cellar for another two years but would drink up over three or four years after that.

A release of about 16,000 bottles, the Cantine Antonio Caggiano 2015 Taurasi Vigna Macchia dei Goti is a full-bodied red wine with dark concentration and rich fruit flavors that are lasting and quite savory. At the wine's core, there is ripe, even sweet cherry fruit, but all this is framed by darker spice, leather, tar and spent ember. This expression is bold and determined, both in terms of the power of the warm vintage fruit and the amplifying effect of the oak aging. I'd reserve it for a juicy and grilled T-bone steak.

The 2016 Taurasi Vigna Macchia dei Goti is spellbinding, with a classic Aglianico bouquet that mixes musky blackberries and plums with scorched earth, air-dried meats, wild herbs and exotic savory spices. There are depths of dark red and black fruits that flow in silky waves, leaving notes of sour citrus and saline-minerals that drench the palate in primary concentration. Its structure comes through during the finale, where grippy tannins mingle with residual acids to create both a structured yet also fresh impression, as inner rose tones and hints of blood orange slowly fade. The Vigna Macchia dei Goti will require a few years of cellaring to show its best. What a gorgeous Taurasi.
