Review
Il Palazzino's 2011 Chianti Classico Grosso Sanese is a big, powerful wine. Black cherry, plum, smoke, tobacco and licorice make a strong opening statement. Already showing signs of aromatic development, the 2011 is probably not destined to be a long-term ager despite its considerable heft and tannic clout. Even so, there is much to like. The personality of the warm, dry season comes through in the slightly roasted fruit profile. *(note: now known as 'Grosso Sanese Gran Selezione')

Review
Tasted from tank just prior to bottling, the 2012 Chianti Classico Grosso Sanese is rich, ample and creamy. Red cherry, plum, rose petal and exotic spice notes all flesh out in the glass. The 2012 is an especially racy, silky Grosso Sanese with midweight structure, silky tannins and fine balance. Best of all, the 2012 will drink well pretty much upon release. *(note: now known as 'Grosso Sanese Gran Selezione')

Review
Il Palazzino's 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva Grosso Sanese is a gorgeous wine for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Sweet tobacco, iron, smoke, game and anise give the 2013 lovely aromatic nuance and a level of complexity that only appears with aging. The tannins could use a bit more time to soften, but there is plenty to like. Readers should expect a potent, muscular style. *(note: now known as 'Grosso Sanese Gran Selezione')

Review
This is linear and juicy with chocolate, cedar and cherry aromas and flavors. Medium body and a flavorful finish that shows length and intensity. Needs a year or two to soften. Better after 2020.

Review
The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Grosso Sanese is a powerful, brooding wine. A rush of sweet red cherry and floral notes appears first as the Grosso Sanese shows off its personality. The style is super-classic, with the intensity of the year peaking through just a touch of volatile acidity that is at the limit, but adds character here. Blood orange, sage, mint and pomegranate appear later, adding to a real feeling of exoticism. The 2015 is undeniably quirky, but also a wine that you want to taste over and over. *(note: now known as 'Grosso Sanese Gran Selezione')

Review
Il Palazzino's Chianti Classico Grosso Sanese is often one of the great wines of Chianti Classico, as it is once again in 2016. Dark, somber and explosive, the 2016 possesses off the charts intensity to match its brooding personality. Black cherry, scorched earth, tobacco, licorice and incense hit the palate. Deep and layered in the glass, the 2016 is super-impressive. What a wine! *(note: now known as 'Grosso Sanese Gran Selezione')

Review
An expressive style, delivering cherry, raspberry, leather, earth and sanguine flavors. Picks up iron and tobacco accents as this tightens up on the burly finish. Packs plenty of fruit, so be patient. Best from 2025 through 2043.

Review
The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Grosso Sanese is a wild, potent wine. It displays black cherries and licorice aromas and is certainly long on personality. This powerhouses Gran Selezione packs a serious punch. The 2018 is a bit rustic, but at the same time, very good. This really needs a ton of air to open up. Readers will find a potent, burly Gran Selezione full of character.

Mushrooms, chocolate, cherry stones and olives on the nose. Touches of tobacco and roasted vanilla bean. It’s full-bodied, richly flavorful and toasty, with chalky tannins and dusty walnut character lingering. Needs a little more time to settle. Try in 2025.
