Review
With fruit from the village of Barbaresco, this wine shows a broad and more wide-sweeping approach to the bouquet. The Albino Rocca 2018 Barbaresco Ronchi offers cassis and wild rose with a more etched tone of crushed stone at the back. Its overall performance remains quite elegant, but I can't help but notice the extra momentum and power on offer here. This was a release of about 8,000 bottles.

The core of cherry and raspberry flavors are shaded by licorice, iron, tar and eucalyptus notes in this complex, sinewy red. Balanced and long, with a touch of heat on the finish, yet this should evolve nicely. Best from 2025 through 2040.

Review
The 2018 Barbaresco Ronchi is another gorgeous wine in this lineup from Rocca. As always, the Ronchi is a Barbaresco of breadth and power. In 2018, those qualities are expressed in a decidedly understated manner. Wild cherry, plum, sage, tobacco and menthol are all kicked up in this super-expressive Barbaresco. Hints of orange peel, spice, star anise and sweet ptpe tobacco grace the layered, exquisite finish

Review
The Albino Rocca 2019 Barbaresco Ronchi is concise and tight with precise aromas of blackcurrant, aniseed, crushed stone and blue flower. Ronchi fruit often shows this more angular and linear quality, and these traits come through with special sharpness in this vintage. Additionally, there is an earthy, crushed limestone quality that also seems specific to this expression. The tannins are hard and firm, setting this wine up for a longer drinking window. Production is 8,200 bottles.

Fresh strawberry with hints of cherry, as well as orange peel. Medium to full body with chewy tannins and a savory finish. Give this two or three years to soften and come together. Try after 2024.

Round and fruity, featuring cherry, raspberry, earth, tar and white pepper aromas and flavors. Reveals a floral hint, too, as this plays out with grace and finesse. Well-structured and silky. Best from 2025 through 2040. 650 cases made, 300 cases imported.

Floral aromas of rose and violet align with Morello cherry and aromatic herb on this fragrant red. Precise and savory, the palate is still youthfully tense, delivering red cherry, pomegranate and licorice alongside tightly wound, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. Give it time to fully develop. Drink 2029–2039.

Review
The 2019 Barbaresco Ronchi is a deep, potent wine. In this tasting, the Ronchi impresses with its stature, aromatic presence and textural intensity. Dark red cherry, red plum, cinnamon, rose petal and dried flowers emerge with a bit of coaxing, but the Ronchi is one of the least giving wines in the range today. I would cellar it for at least a few years. It is another wine where elegance and power meld together.

The 2015 Barbaresco Ronchi is driven by dark and succulent fruit. Aromas of blackberry, dried cherry, spice, tobacco and smoke come together in seamless fashion. The wine offers intensity and power, all lavished over an accessible and velvety mouthfeel. You especially taste the warm vintage on the finish with cherry confit and blackberry preserves.

A mix of sweet cherry, licorice and tar flavors, backed by dense tannins, this red has all the elements in the right proportions but will require time for them to come into balance. Fine length. Best from 2022 through 2038.

The 2015 Barbaresco Ronchi is gorgeous. The richness of the vintage marries very well with the personality of the site, which results in an ample, powerful wine of real character. Bright red cherry, mint, chalk and floral overtones abound. The tannins need time to soften, but that should not be an issue here. This is an impeccable wine from the Rocca family.

Aromas of iris, rose red berry and baking spice lead the way. On the full-bodied but seemingly weightless palate, firm close-grained tannins support dried morello cherry, licorice and clove alongside a savory, almost salty note. Drink 2020–30.

Boysenberries, cherry tart, blueberries and lavender introduce a very floral bouquet. Despite the initial, fragrant impression, this Barbaresco is deadly serious, coating the full-bodied palate in layers of structured tannins. Impressive, contrastive wine. Drink from 2024.

The 2016 Barbaresco Ronchi brings together all the Albino Rocca signatures in a deep, fleshy wine loaded with personality. Sweet black cherry, plum, leather and spice all infuse this sumptuous, creamy Barbaresco with a good bit of richness to play off the tannins that lurk beneath. The 2016 carries its power with remarkable grace and balance. Orange peel, mint, sweet red cherry, spice and crushed flowers linger in a gorgeous Barbaresco that is at once translucent, powerful and deep.

Forest floor, new leather, underbrush and eucalyptus aromas mingle with a whiff of peppercorn. On the full-bodied, focused palate, tightly knit, noble tannins and bright acidity frame juicy Morello cherry, licorice, tobacco and a hint of truffle. Drink 2026–2036. Cellar Selection.

Fresh and pure, with rose, strawberry, cherry and licorice flavors that are well-defined and long. Tobacco and tar accents add complexity as this red remains delicate and detailed from beginning to end. This is all about finesse rather than power. Best from 2022 through 2038.

These are all finely crafted wines from Albino Rocca. The 2016 Barbaresco Ronchi is a precise and balanced expression that shows impeccable aromas and fresh primary fruit. You get a clear and unobstructed view onto the vintage thanks to the small details—wild berry, rose hip, toasted almond and licorice—that this wine delivers with such forthcoming ease. I would pair it with a post-meal plate of powerful gorgonzola, sliced pears and sweet dates.

Review
The 2017 Barbaresco Ronchi is the most representative of this estate because it's where this family estate was born. Grapes from this site have been fermented into wine for many generations starting with great, great grandfather (trisnonno) Carlo who was one of the founding members of the Cantina Sociale di Barbaresco in 1894. The Ronchi cru is planted to 50- to 70-year-old vines on calcareous marl soils that are rich in minerals. This wine reveals a distinctively floral bouquet with pretty contours of crushed stone, white licorice and wild rose. The cornerstones of the characteristic Nebbiolo bouquet are all firmly in place. The Ronchi offers a prominent and pronounced bouquet, followed by medium depth and less power on the mid-palate. The finish might be a bit shorter, but those 2017 tannins pop in at the back, giving the wine firm grounding. Of these three wines, the Ronchi has the most pliant tannins. Fermentation lasts about 30 days in stainless steel, and the wine is racked into Stockinger 20-hectoliter botte (which are very popular in these parts) to rest for two years. Some 7,500 bottles were made, and this wine hit the market in March 2020.

The 2017 Barbaresco Ronchi is terrific. Dark, ample and resonant, the Ronchi envelops all the senses from the very first taste. Succulent red cherry, plum, rose petal, spice, mint and licorice all build as the Ronchi shows off its considerable allure. Readers will have a very hard time keeping their hands off this jewel of a wine from the Rocca family.

The 2020 Barbaresco Ronchi stands out in this range for its breadth and textural resonance. There's gorgeous palate presence. Sweet red plum, blood orange, spice, new leather and incense fill out the layers. It’s a compelling wine in every way, and one that handles its alcohol quite well.

The style is fairly reductive, with a menthol character, dark cherry fruit and minerals on the savoury nose. Full of sucrosity on the palate, with crunchy tannins of good ripeness, refreshing, lively, brilliant acidity and an amazing liquorice aftertaste with a zip of sternness which is welcome at this stage. From a vineyard with southeast exposure planted between 1950 and 1980, this ages for at least 20 months in German and Austrian oak casks.
