Review
The Luigi Pira 2014 Barolo Serralunga speaks in soft, sensual whispers. This is a beautifully undertone expression that emits fine touches of wild berry, licorice and ash. To me, those slightly balsamic or herbal nuances remind me of dried ginger or perhaps the oil you get on your hands as you brush them over a plant of sage or rosemary. This is a wine I would happy drink today and tomorrow.

This smooth red hangs together beautifully, framing flavors of cherry, raspberry, wild herbs, mineral and tobacco. There's plenty of structure, yet this is all about balance and texture, ending with layers of fruit, underbrush and mineral. Best from 2022 through 2040.

Review
The 2014 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is the only wine Giampaolo Pira made in 2014, and is a blend of all the best fruit from the Marenca, Margheria and Collina Rionda vineyards. Powerful and dense in the glass, but in the mid-weight style of the year, Pira's 2014 has a lot to offer. There is plenty of the depth and power readers have come to expect from Pira's wines, but naturally tempered by the personality of the year. Iron, smoke, cedar, savory herbs, tobacco and cured meats add to the wine's brooding, virile personality.

The 2015 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a gorgeous entry-level Barolo from Giampaolo Pira. Rich and dense, yet not at all overdone, the 2015 offers up a beguiling mix of Serralunga aromatics, fruit and structure. Orange peel, spice, dried flowers, mint and licorice all run through this rich, beautifully textured Barolo. The 2015 is truly a superb wine in its peer group. Don't miss it.

Review
The 2017 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a tasty, straightforward Barolo to drink over the next decade or so. The 2017 is a bit lighter than most vintages, but that's not a bad thing at all for a wine meant to be enjoyed on the young side. Red cherry fruit, iron, mint, white pepper
and chalk all lend complexity.

Review
With fruit sourced from throughout this important Barolo subzone, the Luigi Pira 2017 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba shows some ripeness with dried raspberry and sweet cherry. The wine delivers spice, smoke and tilled earth with some of the iron ore or rusty aromas that are so specific to this village in the Barolo appellation. To the palate, it delivers soft tannins and a mid-weight build with all the makings for another fine cut of steak.

Review
The 2018 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is a rich, heady wine. Sweet macerated cherry, kirsch, mint, orange peel and sweet spice give the 2018 a decidedly racy, Mamboyant personality, its mid-weight structure notwithstanding. There is plenty of charm and allure, although the style is decidedly ripe to the point of being exotic.

Review
Despite a stern finish due to chalky, slightly dry tannins, this Barolo from Serralunga is delicious and with a very good quality price ratio. Classic sweet violets and fresh strawberries on the nose are allied to full body and crips acidity, with an austere finish now that may soften a bit with bottle ageing. Indeed, the wine was aged for 24 months in big oak casks so it deserves patience.

This red is stitched with strawberry, cherry, currant and eucalyptus flavors. Firm, with a fine line of dense tannins informing the finish. Balanced and long overall, with flashes of tobacco and mineral sapidity on the finish. Best from 2026 through 2047. 1,000 cases made, 300 cases imported.

The 2019 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is dark, sumptuous and super-expressive. A burst of dark red/purplish fruit opens first, followed by rose petal, lavender, blood orange and spice notes that add character. This is a superb village wine. Don't miss it.
