The 2020 Lettere is dark and moody in the glass, with wild herbs and crushed ashen stone giving way to hints of black currant. There's a creamy wave of silken bubbles that sweep across the palate, carrying mineral-tinged tart berries and hints of sour citrus. A pleasant inner sweetness lingers, along with a coating of rounded tannins, which makes for a fresh yet classically dry finale. The Lettere, a blend of 50% Piedirosso, 40% Aglianico and 10% Sciascinoso, is a fun sparkling red that is packed full of energy.

Deep ruby-purple with a rich foam. Cola-like notes complement aromas and flavors of black cherry, blueberry, aromatic herbs and violet. Crisp, fresh and youthfully chewy, and much deeper and longer than the Gragnano. Ideal pizza wine that packs in lots of flavor while sporting only 12,5% alcohol.

Bright dark red with small, persistent bubbles. Very harmonious and dense, offering small red fruit and berries nicely lifted by a floral nose. Finishes long and refined, with a peppery but harmonious acidity and noteworthy verve. Outstanding Lettere. This will probably be more difficult to sell than the rounder, more fruit-driven and softer Gragnano, though I’d venture to say that the Lettere is the more refined and less frivolous of the two wines.
