Aromas of black-skinned fruit, leather and baking spices take center stage. The hearty full-bodied palate offers raisin, white pepper and clove alongside velvety tannins.

Review
The 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico straddles the line between the extroverted and savory styles of its category. Masses of black cherries, raspberries and plums take on further depths as balsamic spices and hints of animal musk evolve in the glass. It’s velvety in texture yet vibrant and remarkably fresh, with intense dark fruits lifted by juicy acidity, as savory herbal tones and purple-tinged inner florals form. This is long and penetrating, with a balanced structure to carry it for many years in the cellar, tapering off to hints of bitter bakers' chocolate and licorice. Consider me a fan.

Lots of rich, ripe mixed fruit with some dried-citrus and dusky-spicy undertones. Some mild ginger biscuit, too. Full palate with fruit and licorice coating the expansive tannins. Long, flavorful finish. Drinkable now, but best after 2022.

Review
The 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is dark and savory with a display of black currants, wild herbal tones, flowery underbrush and crushed ashen stone. It’s softly textured and round on the palate, energized by vibrant acidity. A salty core of minerality o!sets its ultra-ripe ripe red fruits. A cascade of inner florals resonates over a coating of fine-grained tannins as the 2018 finishes long and youthfully poised. A short stay in the cellar is recommended here.

Review
Pungent aromas of dried red berries and spices. Full-bodied with a very silky texture, before firming up with very fine tannins, turning the wine more savory in the long finish. A solid core of raisiny fruit, accompanied by an equally solid oaky backbone. Not everyone’s preferred style these days, but this is polished, well made and enjoyable. From organically grown grapes. Give it a few years to integrate, then drink or hold.

This is drinking nicely now with clean currant and raisin character and a hint of balsamic. Medium to full body with crisp, dried-fruit flavors and still quite firm tannin. The fresh focus and balance here means that this will continue to improve, so drink or hold.

This is a good example of Recioto, with a medium-sweet palate loaded with ripe black cherries that are spruced up with vibrant spices and dried orange peel. Full, round and juicy on the palate, with grainy tannins providing a solid framework to the persistent fruit. Nicely done and delicious. Drink or hold.

Review
The 2019 Vigneti di Ettore Rosato is a blend of equal parts Molinara and Corvina, wafting up from the glass with a rich display, showing dried peaches, hints of brown spice, and dusty, sweet florals. On the palate, silky textures wash across the palate, carrying ripe orchard fruits with a twang of saline-minerality. The finish is long with a buzz of zesty acids, as a hint of sour melon fades.

Review
The 2023 Rosato is, first and foremost, extremely peppery - almost spicy hot. Sweet rose petals, fresh watermelon, tart lime and an interesting sensation of coffee-like tannin lend complexity to this round, engaging Rosato. Weighty but not heavy, the 2023 displays nice balance, finishing with a lengthy, melon-inflected aftertaste.

The combination of ripeness and vitality is spot-on here. A cascade of floral notes — violets, lavender and pansies — precedes a collection of spicier elements, such as nutmeg and cloves. Medium-to full-bodied with energetic acidity and an intricately woven texture of firm yet fine tannins. Drink now.

Review
The 2018 Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore is youthfully coy and inward with a pretty display of black fruits, lavender and violets. It’s silky in texture and surprisingly juicy, mixing sour cherry with blackberries and saline minerality. Hints of fine tannin and residual acids create a sense of tension through the finale, yet this never loses momentum, as the 2018 tapers off to bitter currants, cocoa and dark inner florals. This is so fresh and easy to like, and there’s some medium-term cellar potential built in – but you don’t need to wait.
