Since the mid 1800’s, the Minuto family has owned the land where the Moccagatta estate was eventually established. It was named after the previous inhabitants of the area, the Moncagatta family, who lived there until the early 1800’s. Prior to buying this property, the Minuto family owned various vineyards in the municipality of Barbaresco, so cultivating the land is closely intertwined with the history of the family. The current estate, cellar and sales network is the hard work of many generations.
In 1952, Mario Minuto split the family property with his brother, and founded the Moccagatta Winery. In the 1970’s, Mario’s sons, Franco and Sergio began making wine with an emphasis on quality. Meticulous care of the vineyard, a willingness to sacrifice quantity in favor of the richness and concentration of the wine, and investments in modern wine making equipment enabled the quality to increase. After Franco’s passing in 2019, Sergio is supported by his daughter Martina, a trained oenologist, and by Stefano, Franco’s son.
Natural resources define the identity of the wines, so they constantly work to protect and preserve the property. Using methods with low environmental impact, they strive to improve the conservation of the natural resources in the rural areas. They continue the family business with passion, adding their contributions without losing sight of the history.
