Poggio la Croce Winery is  born in 1955 when Paola Benocci, originally from a Montalcino ancient family, inherit 35 hectares of arable land, woods and olives grove in one of the most famous wine area of Tuscany, Montalcino. Along with the luck of being East-bordered with Greppo Biondi Santi Estate’s vineyards and farm house, the hard work on the land and 2 hectares developed in vineyard made a life in wine production start its first steps.
Paola and her husband have introduced the direct sale and opened a holiday farm. Their first Brunello di Montalcino “Fattoria la Croce” was bottled in 1997 and the heraldic light blue and gold family’s coat of arm is well recognized on the label. In his early age, Edward met Paola and her husband in his famous grandmother Idolina’s house in Montalcino.  She was known to be the first to start an hospitality business in the area just after the end of world war two, with her restaurant and hotel which are still open nowadays and keep hosting tourists all around the world thanks to Edward, Alessandra and Roberta.
In January 2017, the almost eighty-five-year old owners of Poggio la Croce decided to sell all their land to Edward who was helping them farming their vineyards. He was honored to add the new business to his own “ Poggio Rubino Estate”, leaving its own historical identity, name and logo. For almost fifty years Poggio la Croce has been developing day by day, lately with the vinification of selected clones of Sangiovese Grosso grapes from old vines in Poggio Rubino winery, the perfect spot for a unique production that keeps high standards of quality thanks to the supervision of Edward.
The untouched history of Poggio la Croce Estate has been valorized and promoted thanks to the new bound and it can be entirely found in the bottles of Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino La Croce that keep the same label and color of the previous years.
