Review
Sweet raspberries and decadent wet leaves and crushed stones, before the sweet spices that come out when you give it some time in the glass. Pretty deep on the palate, with refined, vertical tannins and racy berries. Full and tight, yet integral and tense on the palate, with a mineral finish. Drink or hold

Aromas of cherry and cedar with hints of lemon. Full body, velvety textured tannins and super fruit concentration, yet remains lively and vivid. New producer for me. Drink now.

Dense, soft and juicy with lots of ripe and chewy tannins, mushroom and dried fruit character. Dried citrus underneath it all. Full body. Give it time to soften. Better in 2019.

Review
The Livia Fontana 2018 Barolo Villero is a lean-bodied wine with shinygarnet highlights. This vintage delivers simple fruit fl avors and is one-dimensional overall. Fruit is from one of the best sites in CastiglioneFalletto, but this was a challenging vintage. Dark fruit, licorice andcrushed fl owers emerge quickly from the bouquet.

This shows notes of hay, straw, dried cedar and sawdust, as well as macaroons and candied cherries. The palate is quite drying and tannic, but the fruit is relatively subtle. Quite an elegant, restrained style of Barolo. Drink from 2021.

A beautiful, subtle red with plum and berry character and hints of cedar and earth. Medium to full body with round, creamy tannins and a seductive finish. Really fine and well crafted. Drink after 2022.

This is structured and tannic, but the phenolics are fine-grained and energetic. Medium-bodied with lots of linear length and focus. Goes on for minutes. Villero excelled in 2017. Drink after 2024.

Review
Aromas of dried red cherries and rose-like florals follow through to a medium- to full-bodied palate where the fine and firm tannins are coated with a welcome orange peel flavor. Rather chewy finish but the orange peel note endures. Lacks a little of the complexity and profundity you expect from this top site in Castiglione Falletto, but it’s polished. Try from 2025.

Notes of raspberries, dried spices, cured meat, chocolate hazelnuts and cigar box. Rich and intense with a full body and powerful, creamy tannins. Long, nutty and ripe. Try from 2027.
