Review
This Barolo flashes its fruity side, with bright cherry and raspberry flavors accented by rose, tobacco and a hint of black pepper. Firms up yet remains vibrant, with a lingering, spicy aftertaste. Best from 2025 through 2042. 600 cases made, 200 cases imported.

Review
Despite the warm vintage, 2011 Barolo Marenca shows more freshness and balanced acidity than I would have expected. Opulent, with veins of ripe cherry and blackberry, this is a mid-weight wine that packs a powerful punch upon first inspection, but then it delivers more elegance and finesse once it hits the palate.

Notes of menthol, medicinal herbs, juniper and eucalyptus swirl around the ripe cherry flavors in this aromatic Barolo, supported by a tough layer of tannins. Extends nicely on the finish, where the underbrush elements echo. Best from 2022 through 2036.

Review
The 2015 Barolo Marenca is once again a wine of texture and volume, as it so often is, but there is also terrific aromatic nuance and layers of complexity to balance things out. Rose petal, sage, mint, sweet tobacco, licorice and wild cherry all run through this ample, super-inviting Serralunga Barolo. When I choose to drink a Pira Barolo, it is almost always Marenca. The 2015 is simply gorgeous. That's all there is to it.

Really gorgeous aromas of dried strawberries with hazelnut and cedar undertones, following through to a full body with real density of fruit and dusty, chewy tannins that finish long and intense. Vivid transparency at the end. Try after 2025.

Review
The 2017 Barolo Marenca is quite understated in this vintage, and not the powerhouse it can be, although that core of strength, that is its key signature, is very much present. Bright red fruit, dried herbs, rose petal, mint and orange peel open with a bit of coaxing. The 2017 is quite a departure from what Pira fans are used to, and yet there is plenty to like.

Review
The Luigi Pira 2017 Barolo Marenca reveals a bright note of sweet cherry or redcurrant that pops first from the bouquet. That pretty red fruit intensity is quickly followed by spice, earth, toasted hazelnut and candied orange peel. This is a graceful and smooth expression from a site in Serralunga d'Alba that is almost exclusively farmed by the Pira family, mostly replanted in 1990 and is said to be noted for its powerful Barolo.

Ripe red berries on the nose, tinged with some dark, nutty spice and pressed lilacs. Medium-to full-bodied with very fine, integrated tannins and a tight, spicy finish. This is quite closed at the moment, but the intense, balanced core is evident, waiting to flourish. Try from 2024.

Review
The 2018 Barolo Marenca is a powerful, deep Serralunga Barolo. Wild dark cherry, spice, menthol, licorice, plum, dried herbs and mocha infuse the 2018 with tons of character. There is plenty of richness and intensity, but thankfully the bruising tannins of the past appear to have been tamed. There is a lot of wine here. This is a fine, fine showing.

Review
Bright ruby in the glass, Pira's Marenca 2019 shows a bright definition of liquorice stick with vibrant violet and bergamot-like citrus note. The attack is elegant, refreshing and savory, but then the palate is dominated by firm, grainy tannins with a dusty yet sweet finish. A greatly powerful wine which deserves attention for its ageing ability.

Aromas of rose stem and fresh herbs. Plums, too. Medium to full body. Chewy and polished tannins and a savory finish. A little rustic but should come out nicely in three or four years.

Review
The 2019 Barolo Marenca is superb. Rich, ample nd explosive, with tremendous depth, the 2019 has so much to offer. A rush of dark red-toned fruit, lavender, spice, iron and dried flowers saturates the palate. Bright acids and firm Serralunga tannis wrap it all together. The 2019 is exceptional.

Bright ruby color with a nose of fresh roses, violets, pomegranate and light spiciness. The palate is focused on crunchiness, with a medium body, firm tannins soaked with blood oranges, refreshing acidity and a quite sticky finish. Try from 2030.
