Another dark and rich barbera, but this one has the great raspberries and an appealing balance that many others lack. Fresh without being overly tart. This has a rather impressive and long finish. Drink or hold.

Love the simplicity but vitality to the dark cherries on offer here. Touch of herbal liqueur and vanilla. Crunchy and vibrant on the medium-bodied palate. Medium-chewy tannins add a sense of structure. Drink now.

Review
The 2016 Barbera d'Alba Superiore will thrill Giampaolo Pira's fans. Rich, layered and impeccable in its balance, the 2016 has so much to offer. Super-ripe dark plum, spice, bittersweet chocolate and new leather are all pushed forward in a potent, opulent Barbera that offers notable delineation to play off its more overt leanings.

Review
This is a streamlined and elegant wine with a tight bouquet of red fruit and earthy aromas. The 2016 Barbera d'Alba Superiore offers terrific intensity that remains impeccably balanced throughout. This is a lovely Barbera, and I am happily surprised because this vintage is not universally praised for the performance of this specific grape. The variety usually prefers extra warmth and sunshine. The team at Luigi Pira has done a top-notch job in a moderately cool vintage.

A rich version, boasting blackberry, blueberry and earth flavors. The structure is bright and dense, and this persists on the lingering finish.

The 2018 Barbera d'Alba Superiore is soft, plush and very easy to like. Succulent dark cherry, plum, spice, leather and pipe tobacco flesh out in an effortless, wonderfully inviting Barbera full of charm.

Review
The Luigi Pira 2019 Barbera d'Alba Superiore is a compact and fruity red with plenty of bold cherry, blackberry and cassis to keep your interest. The wine is smooth and textured, with a good amount of soft weight to wrap nicely over the palate. This wine has the take-charge personality to pair with a Piemontese plate of coniglio ai pepperoni, or a roasted rabbit with mixed peppers.
