Review
Similar to the other Barolos from this vintage, the 2011 Barolo Vignarionda runs soft and is accessible in terms of its intensity and spice. What it lacks in complexity, it makes up for in muscle power and determination. Vignarionda is located in Serralunga d'Alba, so you are treated to a double dose of intensity from, first, the warm vintage and, second, the thicker soils of this growing site.

Ripe cherry and strawberry flavors are shaded by accents of rose, summer meadow and mint in this linear red. Though taut and unyielding now, all the components are in the right proportions, keeping this vibrant and long. Best from 2023 through 2040.

Review
The 2017 Barolo Vignarionda is soft, fleshy and easygoing. All the elements are very nicely balanced. The Pira Vignarionda is a wine of proportion and harmony. Nothing sticks out. There is plenty of Rionda sensuality to play off the wine's understated, mid-weight personality.

Review
This is the proverbial red-meat Barolo with the structure and stature of both its territory and this emboldened, hot vintage. The Luigi Pira 2017 Barolo Vignarionda shows depth and width with a very rich quality of fruit. That primary intensity adds to the softness of the wine and its considerable textural fiber and layering. This full-bodied Barolo with fruit from Serralunga d'Alba will be remembered for its structure and ample staying power.

Review
Fresh and sweet berry aromas with cherries and dark strawberries to the flowers and spices. It’s full-bodied with layers of fine tannins and intense fruit. The wood comes out a little now, but it’s so impressive nonetheless. Great vineyard. One for the cellar. Try after 2026.

A juicy red, with a beam of pure cherry permeating throughout, augmented by floral, iron, eucalyptus and black pepper notes. Firms up as this builds to a long, tightly wound finish, with more spice and mineral on the aftertaste. Best from 2025 through 2043. 350 cases made, 200 cases imported.

A tight nose with a blend of fresh red berries and nutshell-like oak. Mineral, floral and light minty notes lurk under the surface. Medium-to full-bodied and layered palate, where the fruit is further condensed by some firm tannin. Polished oak on the finish. Shows excellent promise and will blossom with a few more years in bottle. Nicely done for the vintage. Try from 2025.

Review
The 2018 Barolo Vignarionda offers plenty of power and depth, but less in the way of Rionda character, and that's a shame. Big tannins and dense fruit are not especially interesting, especially not here. Rionda is quite possible Barolo's greatest grand cru. Time in the glass brings out some of the inner perfume and sweetness that makes the best wines from this site so alluring, but the style remains decidedly pushed.

Review
Aged for 12 months in barrique plus a further 12 months in larger bottle, this Vignaionda is pretty classic. The concentration of fruit is great: generous yet elegant cherry and strawberry fruit are accompanied by a straw note, while with liquorice finish shows youthful grainy tannins refined and sweet, along with refreshing acidity. It's a little early to tell for sure, but it should age quite well.

Very perfumed and classy on the nose with roses and lavender. Aromatic. Full-bodied with velvety tannins and a pretty presence in the glass. Very polished and ripe tannins for the vintage. Drink after 2027.

A delineated red, with cherry, strawberry, hibiscus and menthol flavors defined by vibrant acidity. Elegant, yet with a straight spine of tannins and subtle length on the finish, which echoes the red fruit and hibiscus and picks up a mineral element. Best from 2026 through 2045. 200 cases made, 60 cases imported.

Review
The 2019 Barolo Vignarionda ais quite sensual in its aromatic profile, but also less giving on the palate. It will be interesting to see if this softens with time in bottle. Gianpaolo Pira has made notable strides with his wines. The Vigna Rionda remains the last nut to crack.
