Review
Nebbiolo from the Valmaggiore vineyard in Roero is quickly becoming one of my Italian wine passions. Only a handful of Piedmont producers make wine here and one of them is the Marengo family. The vineyard parcel belonged to Eugenia Marengo's (Marco's wife) family. Valmaggiore has dramatically vertical slopes that would be terraced in any other part of the world in order to make working here easier. For whatever reason, terraces were never built here, making for dangerously slippery conditions during rain. The 2016 Nebbiolo d'Alba Vigna Valmaggiore sees fruit sourced from 60-year-old vines. This wine offers an excellent starting point for those who want to taste the special Valmaggiore Nebbiolo. Keeping in character, this wine delivers a unique aromatic profile with dried violets and herbs. The mouthfeel shows deep complexity and brilliant freshness.

Review
The 2019 Nebbiolo d'Alba Vigna Valmaggiore shows good concentration and a robust bouquet with dark fruit and nutty aromas that remind me of toasted hazelnuts or almonds. Those nutty aromas segue to earthy truffle and potting soil that are also specific to this bottle. Some of my favorite producers offer a Nebbiolo from the Valmaggiore cru in Roero on the left banks of the Tanaro River, and I always recommend them enthusiastically, both for the quality of the fruit and the competitive price points. This release shows a hint of white pepper at the back of its pretty, dark fruit. Some 6,500 bottles were produced.

Review
Bright and fresh, the M. Marengo 2021 Nebbiolo d'Alba Vigna Valmaggiore offers dark fruit, cherry, earth and a fragrant aroma of rosemary twig or lavender. This Nebbiolo d'Alba has more richness and complexity compared to most of its peers. It boasts a very Mediterranean personality overall. It ages in oak for a quick eight months, and 10,000 bottles were created.

Ripe, spicy, dusty and earthy, this has an expansive and quite bold fruit aroma outlined by a balsamic waft. The attack is very spicy , with ripe, juicy and silky raspberry, pomegranate and black cherry overlaying an earthy background. The acidity cuts through nicely, making this a really moreish, classy Nebbiolo for drinking with food or on its own.
