Review
Lucrezia Carrega's top-shelf wine is the 2011 Roero Riserva Castelletto. The wine's appearance exhibits very nice intensity and a pretty garnet hue. The bouquet shows lasting power and momentum with wild berry, spice and black licorice. The Castelletto vineyard is Malabaila's oldest planting site. The wine ages in barrique for 24 months and then sees four years of bottle aging.

Review
Made with organically farmed fruit, the Malabaila 2015 Roero Riserva Castelletto offers a classic approach to Nebbiolo with menthol and medicinal herbs on top of crushed aniseed and camphor ash. Those balsamic characteristics are strong in this wine, but you get enough forest fruit to pair with veal, chicken or other delicate white meats. There is a lot of energy and tension in this pretty high-toned Nebbiolo that ages in barrique for two years. Production is 4,000 bottles.

A rich modern style with a dark fruit concentration and a sleek structure. Black cherry preserve, violets, and baking spice characters.

There's an air of savory maturity to the nose. A little but licorice and spices, as well as red cherries. The palate has supple tannins and a mellow, laid-back stance. Drink this now.

Review
Here's a wine with a little age on it. The Malabaila 2016 Roero Riserva Castelletto is a rich and broadly textured red with a very open-knit character and some mildly oxidative or faded tones of dried fruit, earth, raisin and blackcurrant. The tannins are completely integrated into the wine's softly textured finish. The wine is running the end of its course.
