Review
Pouring from the bottle with a light ruby color, the Albino Rocca 2018 Barbaresco Cottà shows dried cherry, cassis and lots of blue flower or summer lavender. This is a classic and neatly contained expression of cool-vintage Nebbiolo. The bouquet is fluid but also compact, and you can look forward to an interesting aromatic evolution to come as this wine continues along its aging path. Only 2,000 bottles were released.

Review
The 2018 Barbaresco Cottá shows the mid-palate pliancy and depth that is typical of this site, but in the gracious, understated style that defines the Rocca Barbarescos today, especially in this vintage. Succulent dark cherry, plum, spice and leather all flesh out in the glass. Give it a few years to soften.

Review
The Albino Rocca 2019 Barbaresco Cottà (with only 2,000 bottles made) shows a medium light consistency with pretty ruby and garnet highlights. Looking back at my past notes, it seems that the light color and luminous appearance is almost always a defining factor of this pretty wine. This Barbaresco follows through to the palate with exceptionally soft and silky sensations with subtle berry aromas, rose, licorice and tea leaf. There is an accessible side to Cottà for sure, but it would also be interesting to watch its future bottle evolution.

A perfumed and very fine wine with green strawberries and hints of cherry and lemon rind. Medium body and delicate tannins, with a fine texture and a medium-chewy finish. Drinkable now, but better in a year or two.

This features a firm backbone yet remains a generous red, evoking strawberry, cherry, sanguine, tar and smoky, savory flavors. Elegant and linear, with a long, detailed finish. Best from 2026 through 2043. 150 cases made, 40 cases imported.

Review
The 2019 Barbaresco Cottá is stellar. This is the first year the Cottá was vinified in oak (as opposed to steel), with about ten days of submerged cap maceration at the end. It offers up an exciting mélange of dark cherry, plum, spice, cedar, tobacco, incense and mocha that build into the heady, explosive finish. Medium in body, with striking depth, the Cottá is superb.

Review
Inviting aromas of toasted hazelnut, violet and ripe forest berry waft out of the glass along with a whiff of leather on this stellar red. Firmly structured and elegant, the savory palate is still young and primary but already shows juicy Morello cherry, cranberry, star anise and a hint of coffee bean alongside a backbone of fine-grained tannins. Vibrant acidity keeps it bright and balanced. Drink 2029–2044.

Review
The 2015 Barbaresco Cottà displays a subdued but steady personality. The bouquet is stitched carefully together with dried berries followed by balsam herb, rosemary sprig and cherry cola. There is an oxidative or slightly evolved note, but it is well massaged into the black fruit and spice that sits at the core of this Barbaresco from Neive. The mouthfeel is elegant and bright. This is the inaugural vintage by Albino Rocca.

This stunning, structured red has lovely floral and spice aromas of iris, violet and cinnamon that take center stage while red berry and menthol float in the background. Full bodied and extremely elegant, the tight polished palate delivers ripe morello cherry, raspberry compote, star anise and nutmeg framed in taut, fine-grained tannins. Drink 2023–2035.

This is very structured and linear with a fine line of tannins running through the center palate. Medium to full body. Cedar and dark-berry character. Long and focused. Muscular and fine-tuned. Drink in 2021.

Review
Here in its first release, 2015 Barbaresco Cottà, shows the natural breadth of this vineyard in Neive. There has a real sense of weight and gravitas that distinguishes the Cottà in this range. I would give the 2015 at least a few years in bottle to fully come together. This is certainly an auspicious debut. The Cottà could very well be a new star in the range.

Dried strawberries, tea leaves, cedar and dried spices make for an enticing prospect. The full-bodied palate, meanwhile, has a regal core of tannin power, punctuated by mouthwatering acidity. Medium-long on the finish. Drink from 2023.

Review
The 2016 Barbaresco Cottà shows all the density and power that is typical of this site in Neive, qualities that are further amplified by the smaller cask used for this tiny production bottling. Dark cherry, plum, graphite, licorice, spice and menthol add to an impression of gravitas in this powerful, muscular Barbaresco from Albino Rocca.

Review
The 2016 Barbaresco Cottà is a nicely executed wine with linear and crisp aromatic details that are all presented with purity and clarity. The wine also produces a soft and subtle side with a caressing mouthfeel that is framed by polished tannins and balanced freshness. This Barbaresco tastes great straight out of the gate. It would make a perfect companion to a porcini risotto.

Balsamic aromas of menthol mingle with new leather, crushed botanical herbs, iris and wild berry. Juicy and structured, the firm but elegant palate offers ripe Marasca cherry, licorice and grilled herbs alongside tightly knit, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. It's full bodied and focused. Best 2026–2036.

One of the highlights in this range, the 2017 Barbaresco Cottà possesses tremendous depth along with the sheer breadth that is the key signature of this Neive cru. Black cherry, plum, leather, licorice, mint and lavender soar out of the glass, all with the backing of serious tannins that are going to need time to soften. This is impressive stuff.

The 2020 Barbaresco Cotta is a powerful, dense wine that shows the natural richness of this site, but tempered by the restrained style that runs through all these wines. Succulent red cherry, red plum, blood orange, spice. There's gorgeous depth here.

Review
This vineyard is where the Tortonian imprint from the land gives complex and long lived wines,' says Albino Rocca. The presence of high amounts of limestone in the soil seems clear in the very fresh pomegranate fruit, sweet violet, yet tense, very classic, pure redcurrant fruit alongside whiffs of cinnamon. The attack is full of sucrosity and savouriness, relaxing, elegant acidity, lifted and high with velvety if not silky tannins. Warming but balanced. Great tension of fruit and a great wine.
