Review
The 2018 Barbaresco Ovello Vigna Loreto marries depth, energy and the pedigree of this site. There is real intensity here. Firm Ovello tannins wrap around sweet red cherry, leather, spice, menthol and licorice. Bright saline notes and piercing young Nebbiolo tannins extend the finish effortlessly. This is a super-classic expression of Ovello.

This bottle now names the vineyard cru, Ovello, as well as the plot within that site, Vigna Loreto. The Albino Rocca 2019 Barbaresco Ovello Vigna Loreto shows a smooth consistency (especially when compared to the more angular and determined Ronchi). However, Ovello doesn't hold back on power either, and the wine counts long palate persistency with lingering tones of wild cassis, rose and crushed limestone. To me, this wine offers the best of both world with the softness of Cottà and the background tightness of Ronchi. Only 3,000 bottles were made.

Expressive for its aromas and flavors of rose, this red also boasts generous cherry, strawberry, mineral, white pepper and tobacco notes. Supple and harmonious, with ample structure for aging. Stylish and long. Best from 2026

Iris, rose and baking spice aromas take center stage on this beautiful red. It's young and tight but already delicious, featuring ripe red cherry, star anise and ground clove set against a backbone of bright acidity and noble tannins. It will age well for years. Drink 2029–2039.

Review
The 2019 Barbaresco Ovello Vigna Loreto is fabulous. Bright and translucent, with terrific energy, the 2019 is all class. Crushed red berry fruit, rose petal and orange peel convey the purest essence of Nebbiolo classicism. White pepper, chalk and mint lend brightness to the taut, very Ovello finish. In this tasting, the 2019 is positively stellar. It saw 25-30 days on the skins followed by 20-22 months in cask. Give it a few years to soften.

Review
Of the three single-vineyard expressions of Barbaresco from Albino Rocca tasted this year, the 2015 Barbaresco Ovello (with 2,500 bottles made) exhibits the most defined mineral note. The bouquet shows dark fruit, spice and medicinal herb. It also delivers a very pretty and defined note of crushed granite or pencil shaving. The Ovello is also distinguished by a sweet and more succulent mouthfeel. Of these three wines, including the Barbaresco Cottà and the Barbaresco Ronchi, this is my favorite.

Aromas of roses, orange peel and fresh plums. Full body, yet very fine tannins that give this such pretty finesse, tension and form. Hard not to drink now, but a long life ahead. Try in 2021.

Enticing aromas of star anise, blue flower, wild berry, menthol and a whiff of new leather all come together on this gorgeous elegantly structured red. The full-bodied creamy palate doles out ripe Marasca cherry, raspberry compote, baking spice, licorice and tobacco framed in fine-grained tannins that offer seamless support. It's balanced, with fresh acidity. Drink 2022–2035.

Pretty cherry, strawberry and floral aromas and flavors define this elegant, supple red. Firmly structured and beautifully integrated, leaving a lingering aftertaste of iron, tobacco and underbrush. Best from 2022 through 2042.

Review
The 2015 Barbaresco Ovello Vigna Loreto is beautifully lifted in the glass. Even in this warm vintage, the Loreto retains the nerve and tension that are such signatures of this Barbaresc vineyard. Crushed flowers, dried herbs, mint and chalk are all nicely delineated in a precise, finely sculpted Barbaresco endowed with real character. Readers should plan on cellaring the 2015 for at least a few years before diving into bottles.

Dried peaches, rose petals and orange peel all make for a very fragrant impression. Medium-to full-bodied and velvety in terms of tannin texture, but with underlying chewiness. Real kick of acidity on the finish. Drink from 2021.

Review
A wine of density and power, the 2016 Barbaresco Ovello Vigna Loreto is marked by its vertical build and overall sense of structure. Dense and pliant in its first impression, the 2016 has plenty of muscle lying in the background. Iron, smoke, wild berry, hard candy, spice and sweet floral notes all develop. Time in the glass brings out a more aromatic side of the wine's personality to complete things very nicely. The incisive Ovello tannins naturally need time to soften, but all the elements are in the right place.

Sour cherry and rose petal aromas segue into currant, licorice and loam flavors in this elegant yet tightly wound red. Austere and a bit severe on the finish today, yet shows terrific balance and length. Best from 2022 through 2037.

Review
The 2017 Barbaresco Ovello is fine and sculpted, as wines from this cru are, but in 2017 it has an extra bit of weight that really balances some of the natural austerity that comes so easily in Ovello. Crushed red berries, chalk, mint, white pepper and rose petal fill out the layers effortlessly. Vivid and translucent in the glass, the 2017 is incredibly beautiful and so expressive.
