Mofete are the last gaseous manifestation of volcanic activity. As defined by the Treccani dictionary, Mofete are direct emissions of solid CO2 (commonly known as dry ice) from volcanic vents that occur as the magma below cools and becomes inactive – a necessary step in the soil’s evolution for it to support viticulture / agriculture.
