Alberto Fiorini owner of Poderi Fiorini (Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro DOP, Lambrusco di Sorbara DOP, Lambrusco di Modena DOP, Colli Bolognesi Pignoletto DOP) – the following is an extract of a letter sent by Alberto to the clients of the winery: “…the 2011/2012 winter was one of the least rainy of the past 20 years, we only had a heavy snowfall in February…The weather in the springtime was mild so that the budding phase and the following “veraison” phase of the vines took place early…..the summer can be compared to 2003 and we tilled every other aisle between the rows of vines in order to give “freshness” to the soil…We irrigated the vines of Lambrusco Sorbara and a part of the vines of Lambrusco Grasparossa…..The grape yield was lower this year. We carried out white vinification on the Lambrusco di Sorbara “Corte degli Attimi”, in order to better define the floral aromatics that are typical of Sorbara and in order to obtain a light purple colour. This is undoubtedly one of the best Lambrusco Sorbara of the latest vintages. The grape yield of the “Terre al Sole” vineyard was lower …the rains at the beginning of September helped the grapes…At the “Torre dei Nanni” winery, although there were problems due to the lack of water, we managed to obtain a good acidity – which is very important for Pignoletto – by picking this varietal early, starting on the 13th of August….We can say that this is an excellent vintage for Lambrusco and for Pignoletto……. ”
