Located just a few km outside of the town of Gaiole in Chianti Classico, Borgo Casa al Vento is the result of a skillful restoration done by the Gioffreda family in the early 1990’s. Today, the modern touches at this ancient estate invoke the passion, love and tradition that makes authentic Chianti Classico such an inspiration. Gently sloping hillsides at high altitudes are blessed with classic Galestro soils of limestone, marl and broken rock.
A respect for nature can be found in the rolling hills of untamed scree, rosemary and oak that surround the estate. The harvest at Casa al Vento is a ritual, a celebration of the season, and a step towards the long-awaited wine that will come. There are 5 hectares of Sangiovese for the production of 3 Chianti Classico DOCG and 1.5 hectares of Merlot for the production of the IGT red. The production facility was built in 2000 and is eco-friendly due to the photovoltaic system started back in 2006, with an expansion beginning in 2023. This will guarantee the winery has full energy independence. All work is conducted by hand and under organic certification. The fruit is hand-selected bunch by bunch to ensure optimal maturity and once at the cellar door, carefully de-stemmed and sorted. The fruit is pressed gently, and fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Aging is carried out in a combination of neutral oak barrels and casks of various sizes to ensure wines of character, terroir and tradition. Total production is around 25,000 bottles a year.
