MONTE COMPATRI (Frascati – Province of Rome): The winter was mild with quite a lot of rain. The springtime was fresh and rainy. The weather got warmer from April till July, but the temperature did not get too high. During this period there were some good rainfalls. The summer was warm, but not excessively. There were two or three rains during this period. The vines had a good water supply and they never suffered from hydric stress.

Lorenzo Costantini owner of the homonymous estate (Frascati Superiore DOC, Lazio IGT):”..the harvest was very late this year. We picked Sauvignon Blanc at the end of August, Malvasia del Lazio on the 15th of September, Syrah on the 29th of September, Petit Verdot on the first of October, Sangiovese and Cesanese after the 15th of October. We picked the grapes for Frascati, Trebbiano and Malvasia di Candia, from the end of September till the 12th/13th of October. In September there was rain that favoured the maturity of the clusters. I am very happy. The grapes were perfect. We had no hail this year. This is a very “rich” harvest: the wines have a lot of structure, they are round, with a good alcohol strength, they are full in the mouth. The colour is intense, the whites are a beautiful straw yellow. There are more fruit notes in comparison to floral notes this year. The alcoholic fermentation and the malolactic fermentation (for the reds) proceeded well…..”
