Schiava (‘Vernatsch‘ in German) derives from Latin “Vernaculus” and refers to its far-reaching history in Alto Adige. It is an indigenous grape variety and due to its light color and structure, truly unique. Schiava excels on airy, sunny hillsides and some describe it as the lightest among all red wine varieties. On loamy, calciferous dolomite soils it develops into a harmonious wine with silky tannins. Herbal and spicy notes unite with enticing cherry, raspberry, and forest fruit aromas. The San Pietro Schiava is a great alternative to any Rosé and suits perfectly to pizza, charcuterie white meats or fish dishes. Recommended drinking lightly chilled (13°C/55°F).
