Silicea, from the Latin “Basalto“, meaning volcanic rock formed by the solidification of magma, is very present in Borgo del Cedro’s vineyards. It is a distinctive Roma DOC made with Montepulciano and Syrah grapes. “The presence of Montepulciano in Lazio should not come as surprise,” explained Lorenzo Costantini, “as it has a consolidated tradition locally since the 1800s with the name Violone (Big Purple for the Americans!).” Structure, tannic stature, pronounced spiciness, and complexity are its main features.
