Valpolicella Classico Superiore Poiega

It is Mazzi’s most characteristic wine. Created by Roberto Mazzi in the last century, the first bottles appeared on the market under the name of ‘Vecchio d'Arrosto’, already sharing an idea that was quite unknown at that time: combination of food and wine. Since at that time the Valpolicella was an “everyday wine”, therefore of low alcohol content like most wines of that period, the idea of aging it in barrels and making it more full-bodied through a less long drying process than that for Amarone and Recioto contributed to give it a structure suitable for important courses such as roast meats, which local people used to eat for Sunday lunches. The current name ‘Poiega’ derives from the locality where there is the vineyard plot, which most of the grapes come from. 'Poiega' is recognized as one of the best hill in the municipality of Negar due to the favorable climatic conditions suitable for the cultivation of the vineyard.
